Paula Gortázar (Madrid, 1984) is artist-photographer and researcher based in London. Her thesis investigates the development of art photography in The Czech Republic and Slovakia between 1968 and 1999. Moving between the conceptual and the documentary, her photographic practice explores different aspects of politics and capitalism.
In 2007 Paula completed a Law Degree in Spain while studying photography with Spanish photographer Rafael Lobato. In 2009 she undertook a PgCert in Photography at Central Saint Martins and in 2011 she completed an MA in Photographic Studies at the University of Westminster.

Paula’s work has been exhibited in Canada, USA, Germany, Lithuania, Spain and the UK, including venues like The Photographers’ Gallery, and published in different journals such as the British Journal of Photography. Among other awards, she was selected for Fresh Faced and Wild Eyed (UK), Flash Forward Festival (Canada) and Magnum’s context for young photographers Ideas Tap Photography Award (UK). In 2015 she had her first solo show at Bildkultur Gallery in Stuttgart (Germany)
