Kit Oates graduated from Westminster in 2008 (BA Photographic Arts) and is now a portrait and commercial photographer for magazines, NGO’s and businesses, including Comic Relief, Salvation Army, and the Guardian/Observer. Due to his innate passion for meeting people and documenting their stories, in a short space of time Kit has managed to photograph an extensive range of subjects, including Tanzanian biker gangs, New England lobster farmers and ethnic minorities in the British armed forces for a range of publications.
In 2010 Kit and 12 other creatives formed South Kilburn Studios, a studio offering free training to local residents in creative disciplines. Kit runs workshops and takes on two trainees a year, training them to become fully independent photographers.
Last year Kit co-founded Double Negative Media with photographer Mike Massaro. Mike and Kit met while studying at Westminster. Double Negative Media is a photographic agency that specialises in connecting brands with their audience through photography, their clients include Virgin Media, Barclays bank and pr agencies across London.
